Geeks Rejoice! There Will Be New Whedon & Abrams TV Shows!

May 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

The word has come down from those conservative nutjobs at the FOX Network (you know…the conservatives that put “Family Guy” & “The Simpsons” on the air) and my fellow J.J. Abrams/Joss Whedon worshipers can all relax. FOX has picked up “Fringe” and “Dollhouse” for the upcoming Fall 2008 television season.

The J.J. Abrams show is “Fringe” and it sounds like an “X-Files” type show. Here is the plot summary from the IMDB:

A television drama centered around a female FBI agent who is forced to work with an institutionalized scientists in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena.

Although I love J.J. Abrams, the Joss Whedon show “Dollhouse” is the one that I anticipate the most. Since I absolutely loved “Firefly” and “Serenity”, this return to television for Whedon is really exciting for me. Here is its plot summary:

A futuristic laboratory assigns different tasks to its various residents, who then have their memories erased upon the completion of their assignments.

You can read some pretty cool script reviews that really describe what the shows are about. It sounds like “Fringe” is a bit more accessible while “Dollhouse” could be too much oddity for the general public to handle. Of course, the fact that Eliza Dushku is the star of “Dollhouse” guarantees numerous males from the ages of 16 to 35 will be watching…from their parent’s basement of course.
