This is a shot of Bill Murray in the greatness of “Broken Flowers”. It is the initial scene of the movie and his character’s girlfriend is leaving him. This shot is appropriate today as Bill Murray’s wife of eleven years has filed for divorce. It doesn’t sound like it is going to be a pretty one either as his wife, Jennifer Butler Murray, is making some very serious claims about my Leader’s behavior. She says he is addicted to alcohol and marijuana. Okay, big deal, who isn’t? She goes on to say that Bill “travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons”. So does Kobe Bryant and Laker fans cheer when he hits a jumper.
I kid, I kid. Sure, this sounds pretty bad and I am making light of it a bit since I really am such a lover of All Things Murray. However, when I read the claim that Bill “hit her in the face and then told her she was `lucky he didn’t kill her’”, I get upset and bummed out a bit. That is pretty serious stuff and, while I don’t necessarily believe it, I have read enough about Bill Murray and his personality that some of it doesn’t sound too far off. It’s not really cool to condone alcohol and marijuana abuse but that can be fixed. The fact that he may have been physically abusive? Tough to forgive.
Don’t worry Bill, I’ll still go see your movies…but if this turns out to be true, don’t expect a Christmas card from Cinematically Correct…or Holiday Card…or whatever we have to call that season these days.

In my office we can’t celebrate any holidays, Christmas or otherwise. We can only celebrate New Years.
