The funny business has lost one of its greatest contributors with the passing of George Carlin. Carlin died in Los Angeles yesterday due to heart failure at the age of 71.
It’s tough to remain culturally relevant for over 40 years but George Carlin found a way to make that happen. I don’t agree with most of his political and social beliefs but his stand-up routine is absolute genius. I’ve even read a few of Carlin’s books (“Brain Droppings”, “Napalm & Silly Putty”) and those are pretty funny. Carlin has influenced tons of comedians and entertained at the very least two generations of people. Heck, he even took time to appear in three Kevin Smith movies. The guy was a busy, busy man, performing as recently as last weekend.
Carlin was an atheist so I don’t know if he believed in a Heaven or a Hell. From what I understand, his idea of Hell was Texas…I have a tendency to agree with him on that one. Well, I believe in Heaven and I’m just going to assume that Carlin is now the best comedian there.
