Is 2008 Finally The Year That Danny Boyle Hits The Big Time?

Danny Boyle has been directing movies for about 15 years now and In Contention has a very cool interview with him in which they discuss his movies. Boyle talks a little bit about each of his films and what he enjoyed or learned while making them. It’s comforting to know that Danny seems to realize that yes, “A Life Less Ordinary” is completely God awful.

While many people in the United States have heard of his movies, they have yet to really achieve big commercial success in this country. There are many people that claim to love “Trainspotting” but they sure didn’t love it while it was in theaters. It only made $16.5 million in the U.S. Actually, his biggest movie is the brilliant zombie movie, “28 Days Later”. It raked in a whopping $45 million.

I really believe that “Slumdog Millionaire” could change that. The R-rating will keep it from the big time word-of-mouth success of crowd pleasers like “Rocky” or “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. If this movie could get some sort of national release, it could definitely get to the $50 million mark. I can’t imagine the kind of money it will make in India.

UPDATE: Here is a very cool interview with Danny Boyle on KarmaloopTV. He talks a bit about directing another “28 Days Later” flick…which would be f’ing sweet.
