I Heart Sub Pop

There is no doubt that Cinematically Correct’s favorite record label is Sub Pop. Sure, everyone is familiar with Nirvana but does everyone know that Nirvana’s first album, “Bleach”, was released by Sub Pop? What about Soundgarden’s first album? It’s all Sub Pop.

The little label from the Pacific Northwest is turning 20 years old & Billboard has a few articles that are worth reading. Here are the Top 20 Sub Pop Moments. Among the cooler moments are the first Lamefest in 1989 that was headlined by Mudhoney…with the opening act of Nirvana.

This article is pretty good from such a mainstream site like Billboard. It’s their 20 Essential Sub Pop Albums. Sure, Nirvana, Soundgarden, & Mudhoney are all there but there are some really cool choices other than the obvious. The full-length Flight of the Conchords release is there but so is The Shins first album, “Oh! Inverted World”, Band Of Horses’ first album, “Everything All The Time”, the Afghan Whigs (greatness!), & Fleet Foxes self-titled debut. Very cool stuff.

Cinematically Correct note: The Fleet Foxes album is tremendous. I will review it…eventually.
