Apatow & Crew Have Open Mic Night

If there was ever a night to stumble into Los Angeles’ Upright Citizens Brigade theater, it was last Saturday night. In final preparations to film “Funny People”, Judd Apatow and his cast hit the stage to do some stand-up since “Funny People” takes place in the world of stand-up comedy. Joining Apatow were Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill. I am sure it was so not funny.

“Funny People” is supposedly the first true dive into dramatic comedy for Apatow. There are certain moments in “Knocked Up” that are borderline dramedy but the word is this script is really shooting for some serious stuff. I really think that Apatow is ready to make a more serious flick and getting Sandler on board is a step in the right direction. Even though they have all tanked at the box office, Sandler has been great in his serious roles. He was even good in “Spanglish”, which wasn’t a great movie…mostly due to the beating that was Tea Leoni.
