The Most Pseudo-Famous Person Ever

Spencer Elden is the most pseudo-famous human being of all time. This is Spencer, recreating what made him pseudo-famous. Spencer Elden was the naked pool baby on Nirvana’s “Nevermind” cover.

These days, 17-year old Spencer makes money for interviews, signings, and appearances. Why are people falling for this? Yes, it’s a great album with an iconic album cover. Did this kid have anything to do with it? Nope. He was an infant who happened to get dropped into a pool.

I suppose I shouldn’t fault him for trying to make a buck out of it, since according to the MTV story, his family was only paid $200 for it. Since “Nevermind” went on to sell three hundred bazillion copies, he should hope for some extra scratch from it. However, who is really interested in hearing his story about it?

Cinematically Correct note: I realize the irony in this post. By questioning Spencer Elden’s supposed celebrity, I am perpetuating that celebrity. I am ashamed.
