Will “Away We Go” Make John Kraskinski A Star?
Phew. There is finally proof that Sam Mendes is capable of lightening up. The guy has made some great movies (I personally like “Road To Perdition” best) but they are all very serious pictures. While this trailer for “Away We Go” is definitely melancholy, it doesn’t stink of depression.
This movie has a lot going for it. It’s got two good looking stars in John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. It has the required quirky supporting characters, like the greatness of Catherine O’Hara, Jeff Daniels, and Allison Janney. However, it has a June 5th limited release date, which is right in the summer movie season and puts it up against “Land of the Lost” (the idiot demographic), “The Hangover” (me and every other 28-38 year old male), and one week after the release of “Terminator Salvation”. Sadly…I don’t see “Away We Go” making any serious bank, thus denying John Krasinski the star-making turn he is destined to have.
