Morrissey Emits Coolness

Morrissey Emits Coolness

Last Friday night, my wife and I went to see the great Morrissey. It was a great and bad show for a few reasons.

Overall, it was a great fun and Morrissey owned the stage and crooned like a lounge singer…except he’s a really bitter, introspective, pissed off lounge singer. He shook hands with every person that he could that crammed the front of the stage. There even was a jackass that managed to get on stage and hug Morrissey, which is either inherently cool or totally stupid.

The bad? One thing…no “Panic”. He did a handful of Smiths’ tunes, like “This Charming Man” and “How Soon Is Now”, but not my favorite Smiths song of all time. This bummed me out, but I got over it.

I wouldn’t say that live Morrissey is for everyone. You either have to appreciate his music or just have a desire to see such an indie/alt rock icon. If you are only aware of “How Soon Is Now”, Morrissey live is not for you.

Unfortunately, a local rock critic didn’t seem to dig the show as much as Mrs. Cinematically Correct and I did. There are more photos like the one here over at DC9 At Night, which is the Dallas Observer’s music blog.
