MTV Once More Shows It’s Complete & Utter Irrelevance

I miss Martha Quinn.

I miss Martha Quinn.

MTV has released their nominations for the so-called MTV Movie Awards. As usual, they found a way to pigeon hole as many famous people into these awards as possible. No Sean Penn for Best Male Performance? Well, get him in for Best Kiss with James Franco from “Milk”…which technically should be pretty insulting for all those involved with a movie with a serious message. Think about it, Gus Van Sant makes a movie about the first openly gay person elected to public office and MTV gives that movie a nomination for Best Freaking Kiss?

The nominees for Best Movie are “The Dark Knight”, “Iron Man”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “High School Musical 3″…and f’ing “Twilight”. Good Lord. I realize that this show isn’t meant to be taken seriously but anything that feels the need to reward “Baby Mama” and “Bride Wars” at once should be banned from public consumption.

Look, MTV is a complete and total disaster. There isn’t one second of programming worth watching on that once-great station. Barring the return of “120 Minutes”, MTV will never appear on my television. Ever.

I think it’s more of a sign that teenagers are mentally ill and current culture is, well, worthless.
