Did Brett Ratner Secretly Direct “Sherlock Holmes”?
The reason that people tend to get into Guy Ritchie’s first two movies, “Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch”, is that they heavily favor style over substance. They are amusing gangster stories that are told with flair and humor. After those two flicks, you could call Ritchie “Quentin Tarantino Light“; Ritchie’s got the style down, but less than half the substance of regular Tarantino…which is getting harder to do these days.
Other than one bare-knuckled boxing scene, this brand new trailer for “Sherlock Holmes” shows that Ritchie may have even lost the style that could make him a successful director. It’s got the explosions, double entrendres, hot chicks, blah blah blah…all the things you expect in a Ratner/Michael Bay explosion contest. Is there any doubt now that it’s completely up to Robert Downey Jr. to charm his way through this one?
