Does The World Need Another “Vacation”?
I have a confession to make: I despise every single “Vacation” movie. To be completely honest, other than “Sixteen Candles”, I’m not a big fan of anything that John Hughes wrote. Yes, even “The Breakfast Club”. While good, it’s simply not as great as it is made out.
Why do I hate the “Vacation” flicks? Well, it’s easy to hate the sequels because in addition to being annoying, they are just flat out terrible. Yes, even your beloved “Christmas Vacation” is awful. I can’t handle them because something terrible goes wrong for every character at every moment. So, in order to attempt to make those horrible things funny, they have to escalate in nature. In turn, this makes each moment more outrageously unbelievable.
What brought this on? New Line is going to make another “Vacation” sequel. This time, the story will focus on Clark Griswold’s son, Rusty, who is now a grown man who tries to take his family on vacation.
Essentially, this will be a remake of the original with new failed bits and a 80-100% chance that Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo cameo in it. I wouldn’t go see this if sweet life hung in the balance.
