Let’s Address The Stupidity That Is MTV & The MTV Movie Awards

Remember this? This is what a music video looked like.

No, I don’t plan to go all 1980s guy on you and bitch about MTV not showing videos anymore. That argument is so tired and hoping for any change on the matter is just as futile as crossing your fingers and hoping that Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner will take a trip to Disney World together. MTV isn’t going to stop showing 24 hours worth of crap and there ain’t a thing you, me, or any legislation that is shoved down our throats can do about it.

Since I’m already on the subject of how much MTV hugs the nuts, let’s talk about the colossal embarrassment that is the Movie Awards. Sure, they don’t take it seriously from the start, which almost makes it okay for them to treat this so called award show in a ridiculous manner. My problem with it is that they are essentially promoting crap movies. I get it, tweens aren’t interested in “The Hurt Locker”. They don’t care that Jeff Bridges blew my mid-30s face off in “Crazy Heart”. The problem is that the words Best Movie and “New Moon” should never, ever collide in the same sentence. Thanks to MTV, they do.

Just take a look at this list of insanity. All it is is further proof that Mike Judge was onto something when he made “Idiocracy”. I look through this list and there is nary a piece of legit film making referenced at all. Sandra Bullock…umm…that’s it. These douchebags didn’t even nominate “Avatar” (which I freaking hated). Look, the fact that they have a Best Kiss category is stupid enough but to put Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart in there for a movie that six people saw is just insulting. Seriously. It’s nothing but clutching at the straws of provocativeness.

So F you MTV. When I was a kid, my friends and I would stay up late and watch videos all night long. We got to see kickass stuff like “Money For Nothing”, “Billie Jean”, “Sledgehammer”, and any Talking Heads video. While that wasn’t helping me score any higher on the SATs, it was music, it was good, and we loved you for it. Now, your cable station does nothing but contribute to the dumbing down of this country and it’s simply pathetic.

100% agree. It’s kind of hard to take MTV seriously in any shape or form.

What? The MTV Movies Awards are the best awards out the–

Sorry! I had to stop typing because of the laughter.

Because of “Tropic Thunder,” if I ever did take those awards seriously (I didn’t), I never can again. Remember the trailer for the movie with Kirk Lazarus and Tobey Maguire, who’s biggest award is The MTV Best Kiss Award? Good times.
