NBC Keeps The Chin…I Mean Jay Leno!

December 9, 2008 1 comment

My inside source at NBC calls the station “Nothing But Changes” but today’s announcement of keeping Jay Leno on the air disproves that title. I feel that the main reason NBC wanted to keep Leno around is that a) Howie Mandell makes Jay Leno seem like Rodney Dangerfield and b) the network knows they are in for epic failure with Jimmy Kimmel.

All NBC is doing is killing programming time on the cheap. While this makes economic sense, it’s actually all due to poor decisions by the network. They marketed the hell out of “Knight Rider”, “My Own Worst Enemy”, and “Lipstick Jungle” and those shows failed. They are losing “ER” (Thank God) and now, they can fill that 10 PM slot with their old pal Jay. Sure, he’ll command a big salary but that is nothing compared to the cost of producing a series.

How Many TV Shows Didn’t Make It Past The Chopping Block?

Cinematically Correct was able to get this exclusive shot of Christian Slater leaving the set of “My Own Worst Enemy” yesterday. He was just told by NBC executives that his very cool spy show has been canceled. Obviously, Christian didn’t take the news well and he did indeed beat the hell out of the NBC people while screaming “You are still going to pay that Howie Mandell motherf*****!” He then called Winona Ryder for some moral support.

NBC also canceled “Lipstick Jungle”. From what I understand, that show made “Gossip Girl” look like “The Sopranos”.

FOX is debating pulling the plug on cult favorite “Prison Break”. I have never watched the show so I can’t judge but…didn’t they break out of prison a long time ago? The idea of that show sounded great when it premiered but even then, I didn’t think it would have that long of a shelf life.

Lastly…FOX finally put the comedy world out of its misery and canceled the dreadful “Mad TV”.
